Reflections & Reminiscences
Friday October 30 2009 at 8:00pm
Eva O. Howard Theatre, Victoria School

Citie Ballet's season will open with Carmen, one of the highlights of Citie Ballet's recent past. Carmen the fiery tempestuous gypsy of the opera receives a new contemporary interpretation, based on the original novel by Prosper Merimée. Choreographed by Francois Chevennement and using a contemporary guitar concerto based on Bizet's themes, this dramatic approach focused on the different aspects of Carmen, the woman. This evening will include the participation of the Edmonton Dance Centre students. They will be dancing in choreography by François Chevennement. Solveig Groenland, Resident Choreographer will be reviving one of her favourite works from the past.

The Carmen Project
Nov 2nd - Nov 6th 2009, week workshop
October 30th Matinee
Eva O. Howard Theatre, Victoria School

Citie Ballet will be in residence at Victoria School of Visual and performing Arts for a week. The artistic director, Francois Chevennement and one of his dancers, Danica Smith, will be presenting to the students the encephalographic approach of Carmen. They will also work with students from the Drama and Dance department in order to include them in the performances. The week will close with two performances of Carmen on the Saturday afternoon.
