Resident Staff Solveig Groenland
A.I.S.T.D. (Cecchetti)
Solveig Groenland graduated from the Grant MacEwan Dance Program with Honours in 2000, and has since had the opportunity to work with many renowned contemporary companies and choreographers, including Ginette Laurin with O Vertigo and BJM Danse (formerly Les Ballet Jazz) in Montreal, and New York's Isabele Gotzkowski.
In 2002, Ms. Groenland created her first work for Citie Ballet, and after a very successful second work in the fall of 2003 was named Resident Choreographer by then Artistic Director, William Thompson. Ms. Groenland was funded by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts for a full length piece in 2004 and continues to receive commissions for her choreography.
A lifelong student of the Cecchetti method, Ms. Groenland holds her Associate Certification with the Cecchetti Branch of the Imperial Society of the Teachers of Dance. She teaches both Ballet and Hawkins Contemporary dance full time within Edmonton, and continues to teach freelance throughout Alberta.
